I did some research on resource guarding and found some interesting suggestions. Basically you let the dog know that you're not going to steal his stuff, that you'll trade for it instead. He needs to know that good things will happen when you do need to take something from him (or more to the point when you make him give you something). We'll have to work on that with Harley. I'm working more with him on hand signals for sit, down, up and paw. He's doing okay so far. I'll just keep working with him until he gets it. Oh yeah, working on the hand signal for roll over too. I haven't done any mat work with him this week. I'll have the rest of today and tomorrow to work with him. Sunday morning too but I don't want to wear him out before class starts by training too much on training day.
I'll still talk to Christine on Sunday about the resource guarding and see what her take is on it.
