Skooter finally got out of bed, my bed, at 6:15 am. After sitting at the door I let Skooter and Moped out. Skooter jumped the fence to go rabbit hunting. I got Moped back in the house, after a sit at the door. I put some Kong Tots in his kennel and told him, in a stern voice, 'kennel'. It took him a few walk-bys, but within a minute he was in his kennel. That's progress.
I thought of another suggestion that Misty had for me:
1. Use different tones in my voice to convey what I need the dog to know. Use a lower, stern voice when requesting a behavior. Use a high, cheerleader-spirit voice when praising them. I've tried it out a bit and it seems to work.
6:40 am Skooter is still out. I worry about him getting out of the yard. We really need to get the tie out put up. I'll bring the wrong-sized one back today and get one that is more heavy duty for my strong pullers.
Even though I'm very tired, from being up at midnight, I do like to be up this time of day when things are quiet. I can often get things done this time of day.
Skooter just came back (6:45 am). I made him to a 2-3 second sit before coming in the house. Now he's on a blanket on the couch. What a spoiled dog. I need to get him in his kennel, but I'm tired and don't want to battle with him. Anyway, he's a good dog when he is off tie down and deserved to be out more. I just need to know that if I want him to go in his kennel, he will, without a bunch of fuss.
